Per the course catalog: “An introduction to the basic concepts and research methods of the discipline, including approaches to study of political science.”

Per my vision: The purpose of this class is two-fold—to introduce you to the scope and methods of political science.  With the scope, we will be discussing the various topics and fields that form the questions that political scientists ask.  We will look at various concepts that are necessary to understand to successfully study any of the subfields of political science.  With regards to methods, the course will specifically concentrate on political science by focusing on the logic and analysis of social science research and inquiry.  This course will acquaint students with the language of research methods along with the problems and drawbacks to social science research.  Rather than break the course into essential two separate sections, we will rotate between scope and methods sections throughout the semester.
