Background
Wayne H. Bowen, Professor and Chair of the History Department at Southeast Missouri State University, is a specialist on modern Spanish history, with three published books in the field. His primary areas of research have been the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, the relations between Spain and Nazi Germany, and World War II. More recently, he has begun work on a book on Spain and the American Civil War. Other areas of research and teaching interest include the modern Middle East, military history, and the Mediterranean. He is also working on a project comparing the declines of the Spanish and Ottoman Empires in the 18th and 19th centuries. Bowen is also a Major in the US Army Reserve, with deployments to Bosnia (1998) and Iraq (2004).
