LI 570 Paper One
The paper will compare and/or contrast a major theme, major character(s), or style of two novels.
The two may be chosen from The Ballad of the Sad Café, Slaughterhouse-Five, The Bluest Eye, and Play It As It Lays. Instead of limiting your choice to two of those four, you may write on one of the four and use another novel by your selected author as your second choice. In other words, if you decide to write on The Bluest Eye, you could choose another Morrison novel as the second novel.
The paper will be 5-10 typed double spaced, pages in 10 or 12 font size.
The paper must use and cite at least three critical sources. At least two of those sources must be “hard” copy sources. By “hard,” obviously I mean a book or an article in a periodical. Note, a source found on the web which originally appeared in a “hard” source would count as a “hard source.”
The paper must have at least four citations or notes; that’s a total of
four, not four from each of your sources.
Use the in-text MLA citation
style shown on the Notes and Bibliography Style Sheet linked on the course’s
main web page.
Quotations from your “primary sources,” (the novels you are writing about) should be documented or cited in the same fashion as critical sources. But obviously your primary sources are not critical sources.
Your Works Cited page will include your primary and critical sources and follow the format shown on the Notes and Bibliography Style Sheet mentioned above.
