Instructions for Journals and Drop Box

I have attempted to make these as specific and detailed as possible.  Even if you have used Drop Box before, read them.

Journal Content:  Each week's journal should be at least one page in length; a full screen, single spaced in 10 or 12 font size, will constitute one page.  The journal can discuss any aspect of the class material for the week.  Do not merely feed back what was said in class.

Write it in Microsoft Word.  If you write it in Word Perfect or Microsoft Works, use the "Save As" option to convert it to Word (a .doc suffix) or rich text format (a .rtf format).  Drop box will only accept three types of files:  .doc (Microsoft Word), .rtf (rich text format), or .txt (text).

Save your journal (to your hard drive, a floppy, a flash drive, anything).  It would be smart to create a folder in which to save all your journals, just in case there's any discrepancy between the number you think you submitted and the number I indicate I've received.  If you do, you will need to number each differently so this week's doesn't replace last week's. (Journal 8/30, for example).

Each week, after you have written your journal and saved it, click on the "Drop Box" link on the course web page.  Drop Box will then ask you to enter you "User ID" and "Password."  Your "User ID" is the part of your Southeast e-mail address to the left of the @ sign (hehecht1s, for example) and your "Password" is the password which you selected when you activated your Southeast e-mail address.  The link for the week's drop box will appear.  (It will be available from 12:01 Sunday morning until 11:59 Saturday night that week).  Click on it, then click on "Add File."

If Drop Box does not open, remember that the password is case sensitive and try again to be certain you entered all the information correctly.  If it still will not open, send an e-mail message from your Southeast e-mail address to:  support@cstl.semo.edu

and they are supposed to fix the problem.

Each week you will be limited to one upload.

Use the "Browse" button to find your saved journal file (wherever you saved it) and double click on it.

In the "Title" box, enter your last  name

There's no need to enter anything in the information box.  Click on "Upload" and you're done.

I have set up a Practice Drop Box for those of you who have not used the system before or would like a refresher (You may upload as many as ten practices here).

If you have any problems, let me know; do not wait until you've missed half the journals.
