"Always presents an exciting
stratum of new and recognized
writers... a  consistent, solid
read." Carole Cohen, St. Louis,
Missouri.

"Visually stimulating and spirit-
interesting." Jan Epton Seale,
McAllen, Texas.

"When it arrives, everything else
gets put aside until I have read it
from cover to cover. My only
regret is that it only comes out
twice a year!" Ka Bowles,
Atlanta, Georgia.

"A terrific journal for anyone
who appreciates fine modern
poetry and photography."
Literary Magazine Review

"One of the best small poetry
journals anywhere." Sippapu

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:   The Cape Rock exists to provide a national forum for established and new poets and photographers.

POLICIES:   The Cape Rock welcomes submissions and other correspondence, but a self-addressed stamped envelop (SASE) must be enclosed to guarantee a return, reply, or acknowledgment. We read all submissions, including duplicated manuscripts, but writers contract to guarantee that work we accept has not been published previously, and that they will credit The Cape Rock as the original publisher wherever and whenever else the work may be placed. The contributor's name and complete address should appear in the upper right-hand corner of each page of each submission.

POETRY:   No restrictions on subjects or forms. Our criterion for selection is the quality of the work. We prefer poems under 75 lines. No long poems or books; no sentimental, didactic, or "cute" poems.   We pay $200 for the best poem in issue.

PHOTOGRAPHY:  Each issue features 11 photos by a single photographer.  We print in black and white, with a color photo on the cover; submissions may be in color.   Submit 20-25 thematically organized glossies (at least 5 x 7), or send 5 pix with plan for complete issue. We favor most a series that offers a sense of place.  We pay $100 and 10 copies for the photography in an issue. Click for detailed Photo Guidelines.

PAYMENT:   For each issue The Cape Rock will pay $100 for the photography. All contributors are paid in copies.

COPYRIGHT:   The Cape Rock buys all rights, but will release rights to individual authors and artists upon request, provided that they give proper credit to The Cape Rock as the original publisher whenever and wherever else the work is placed. However, in all cases, The Cape Rock retains the right to reprint both individual works and complete issues and to print and re-print singly and/or in collections or anthologies any and/or all of the works, poetic or artistic or photographic, it has previously published.

We do not read submissions in May, June or July.
No electronic submissions, please.

SUBSCRIPTIONS:  One year (two issues):  United States, $10;  Canada and Mexico, $11; other countries, $12.  With a three-year subscription ($27), you may send a one-year gift subscription to a friend.  Single issues $7.
