Tattoo II, 2005. Ink on Skin, 3 1/2 x 3 in. Blending in tattooing is extremely difficult and nerve wracking because, unlike paint, the individual cannot merge the ink into preexisting pigment already in the skin. One must either use optical blending or crosshatch. I spent three times as long as most artists would have with such a simplistic piece in order to give it a sense of depth and to distinguish it from the typical kanji tattoo. |
