PY 366 SENSATION & PERCEPTION

COLORIN2.GIF (2424 bytes)

This course investigates the fundamental principles and current research findings regarding human sensory and perceptual processes and experiences. Areas covered include the basic processes underlying vision, hearing, taste, smell, and touch.  How do we see, and just how good is our vision as a representation of the world around us? How does the design of the visual system, including the visual processing areas of the brain, determine and also limit our knowledge of our surroundings? Why are there color combinations we cannot experience? How can two sounds of the same intensity not sound equally loud? These and many other questions are addressed from an experiential and research oriented approach.
